Frequently asked questions
What Spatial is, how the AI design works, pricing, the iOS app, and more — answered plainly.
- What is Spatial?
- Spatial is an AI design companion that learns your taste and applies it to your real rooms. You upload photos of your actual space, save inspiration you love, and Spatial generates redesigned versions of your room — keeping the architecture, camera angle, and proportions locked while reimagining the design layer on top. It's patent-pending and built for homeowners, not designers.
- How is Spatial different from other AI design tools?
- Most AI design tools generate beautiful but generic rooms that don't reflect your actual space or your personal taste. Spatial is grounded in your real room (uploaded photos) and your real taste (a Taste Genome that grows sharper with every save, transform, and feedback signal). The output isn't a stylized render — it's a redesign of your specific room.
- What is Apply a Look?
- Apply a Look is Spatial's style transfer mode. You save an inspiration photo of any room (or even an exterior) and Spatial extracts its aesthetic — color palette, materials, lighting mood, design language — and applies those qualities to your real room while preserving its architecture.
- How does virtual try-on work?
- Try-on lets you save a specific piece of furniture, rug, lighting fixture, or decor (a product photo or screenshot), then virtually place it into your room. Spatial scales the item realistically, matches the room's lighting, and renders it in the correct position — so you can see how it actually looks in your space before you commit to buying.
- How much does Spatial cost?
- Spatial is free to start, including 10 transforms so you can try the full workflow. Subscription tiers unlock more transforms, higher-fidelity modes, and additional features. You only need a credit card to upgrade — the free tier doesn't require one.
- Is Spatial available on iOS?
- Yes — Spatial is currently in private beta on iOS via TestFlight. The web app at spatialid.ai works in any browser and is the primary surface today; the iOS app gives you a faster capture and save flow on your phone. A link to join the TestFlight beta is on the dashboard's welcome screen (visible to iOS Safari users) and in Settings → Mobile app.
- How does the taste profile (Taste Genome) work?
- Spatial reads patterns in everything you do — quiz answers, inspiration saves, try-ons, color picks, taste notes, and thumbs up/down feedback — and builds a personal model across five aesthetic axes: warmth, organic, light, layered, and era. The profile updates continuously as you explore, so concept generation and Apply a Look results get sharper over time.
- Can I use Spatial to prep a home for a real estate listing?
- Yes. Cleanup mode declutters, straightens, and enhances lighting on a photo of your room without redesigning it — useful for listing prep and quick before/afters. Apply a Look lets you propose redesign directions for a buyer to visualize. Both work on interior rooms and exterior facades.
- Does Spatial work on empty or unfurnished rooms?
- Yes. When Spatial detects an empty room, it switches from 'preserve existing furniture' to 'furnish this space' — laying out a complete design grounded in your taste profile, the room's actual proportions, and any inspiration or style references you've saved.
- Who created Spatial?
- Spatial was created by Jim Bowling and his wife Sissy, homeowners who couldn't find an AI design tool that actually understood their taste or their real rooms. They built Spatial first for themselves, then evolved it into a patent-pending platform under Bowling Inc.
- Is there a tour video?
- Yes. A short tour is available at https://spatialid.ai/how-spatial-works (also reachable at sptl.ai/demo). It walks through capture, curate, explore, and direct — the full Spatial workflow — in a few minutes.
